Ford Motor Company |
| Report Received Date: |
December 15, 1977 |
| Summary:
|
The involved vehicles were
built with aft-of-axle fuel tanks which were not authorized by light
truck engineering. As a result, these vehicles fail to conform to
federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 301, "fuel system integrity",
due to possible fuel tank leakage when impacted from the rear. |
|
Consequence: |
In the event of a rear end
collision, fuel leakage could occur and if an ignition source is
present, a vehicle fire and passenger injury could result. |
| Remedy:
|
Dealer will inspect and
replace aft-of-axle fuel tank with the correct tank, without charge to
owner. |
