If money were no object...

Post by Pegtop »

If money were no object and you decided to have your dream F100 custom built by a professional, who would you want to build it? Every last detail built custom to your specs. Everything from the frame up to the the design of the finishing details. In other words, who do you think is the best custom car/truck builder in the country?

I wish I'd have the money AND time to do it my self,
I enjoy working on my projects but life gets in the way.

I think to an extent it probably depends on exactly what you want done... (like how custom) and I expect it is probably not anyone on TV...

I generally don’t like “custom” though and there is rarely anything done on TV that I like... some of it isn’t bad but that is about as good as it gets usually.

There did used to be a Canadian shop on TV that looked like they did pretty nice work but they were more of a restoration operation than “custom”, I don’t recall the name of the show or the shop though.

If money were no object on a Bump, I’d build all the mechanical myself and then seek out the best interior guy and the best body / paint guys and let them do what body/paint/interior guys do....

If money was truly no object I’d buy me a 1965 GT350 and go to some mustang/Shelby shows and see who was building the winners and get on their list.

Yes, that Canadian shop is called “The Guild of Automotive Restorers” and the tv show they had (still have?) was called “Restoration Garage”. They do some nice projects.

If money were no object, I'd retire. Probably some BFG's, not really sure.

Hmmm, id tear down completely to bare components, then blast the body pieces apart by their spot welds, either coat inside and out of every panel so wouldn't worry about corrosion popping back up or powder coat pieces, then re-assemble. buy as many NOS parts I could find. ideally the perfect restoration, not a big customizing fan. prefer to do the work myself.

Well right now money is the only thing between me and prosperity, but have been Blessed with good family, good vision, good friends and the gift of flight which over the years has been very good to us. But at this stage of life if the money were there I would fix up my 30 acre yard, install a couple kick ass paint and prep shops and air compressors, hire a couple old school paint and body folks and teach some of our newer driver/students a great trade in welding, glass, frames anything that would help them along in life. I have passed on my gifts where I could to our five children and they are all good and successful. NO WAY would I ever commit any vehicle to the Guild for restoration. I watch that show and just what do they teach our kids? Just bleep, bleep, bleep, dress up on their fancy leather coats and pastel pants, stick their noses in the air and proceed to the next high profile car event trying to display, "look what we have and you never in this earthly life will ever have" attitude. Yuck! :cuss: Money in the right hands is most certainly convenient but a great post started here so much to discuss for sure. I probably also would start a music school to teach everything from Junior and High School Bands to guitar and decent rock music. But to answer your question before I really get carried away, I would definitely do the work myself. :D
