What is a rebuildable 302 worth

Post by luke-ao »

I'm going to put up a 302 for sale locally, it ran when it came out about a month ago but it needs a rebuild and will be listed as such. I plan on selling it complete minus the carburator and pullies, the rest will go. It also has a stock factory 2 barrel intake. I haven't looked at the numbers but I believe it's the original 302 that came in my 71 F100.

Just wondering what a fair price is for something that needs rebuilt. I've sold two engines (builders)in the past few years and they went fast so I think I'm way under pricing them. lol

$50-$200 ish.
Your results may vary.

My engine rebuilder friend says 302s are beginning to get scarce .

Interesting, the last one went for $400 over night. The guy drove 200 miles to pay for it in person and had me hold it for 3 weeks before he could pick it up...

:yt: My friend just bought a complete '89 Mustang 5.O for $50 with all brackets including motor supports.
It depends on supply & demand. :fr:

Good luck with yours.

If you're willing and able to pull it yourself (and admittedly not everyone is), the local wrecking yards charge less than $300 for a complete long block - considerably less on one of their 40% weekends. I wanted a 351W, and the vast majority of the small blocks I found were 302s. If it's an earlier one like yours that someone specifically needs for authenticity, I could see it having more value, but around here they're plentiful. I could probably find a couple of dozen at the local yards. It depends what someone's willing to pay for one they can just load up and go. If you're not in a desperate rush to move it, aim high and come down if you have to.
