96 40/20/40 seat in my 69

Post by Fordfrk195 »

First time poster hear but I have been reading for a while. I just scored a 40/20/40 seat out of a 1996 f350 and want I put it in my bump side. So first off yes I looked at the tech side of the forum and I know what to do if this was a bench seat. The 40/20/40 seat is 3 pieces and would be nice if the two seats work independent of each other. I have seen pics of the seats in bumps and dents but not the mounting. I have also seen super duty seats and tech notes on another web site just not what I'm looking for. I don't want to make the whole seat slide as one. Pics would be great thanks

:wel: from Georgia! Stop by the Welcome Mat and introduce your truck to us. I'm in the process of converting from bench to buckets. I've built a framework to do this. In the process, here's what I've discovered. The outer brackets of the stock bench seat can be mounted to the '96 with little effort. That leaves the inner brackets to figure out for a split bench. The inner brackets are about 1-1/2" shorter than the outer brackets and have a relatively flat space on the floor to mount, with the exception of the embossed X ribs in the center of the floor. Given that, I think you could Fab some relatively simple inner brackets and add a handle on the passenger side to operate the original bench slide. Another option would be to locate a set of '65-66 Mustang seat tracks. Since the mustang buckets were the bucket seat option for our trucks, and the original bench seat brackets will mate to the '96 seat, screwball logic implies that Mustang bucket mount will work with '96 split bench with some creative modification. See my project thread in my signature to see the frame I built for my bucket seats (last page). Something similar may work for your '96 bench.

Thanks for the reply I will go and take a look at what you made. I agree with the mustang frame I have a 66 so I can take some measurements and see if that will work. I took a extra set of seat tracks from at 68 so I can mess with it and not have to take the truck apart yet.

Let us know what you find out. Some of us would find that some real interesting information. Quite a few have swapped in bench seats from the '90's but I don't recall anybody mentioning how they adapted a 40/20/40 configuration. It would be really cool to find out that the Mustang seat brackets made it an easy swap.

Those look like the seats I bought at a U-Pull-It. I plan to mount them, just can't find the time.

Looks like very nice seats. How do they work as far as hitting the back window? If the fuel tank was not there it would be better I think. Let us know how you bolt them in. I am hoping to do the same setup. I had them in my 96 and loved them. It was a super cab. The super cab moves lots for the passenger to get in(no rear doors) I think if you get one out of a regular cab it might bolt in.

That is the same seats that I am using in my truck but mine are in black leather now. I am using power seat bases from a ford explorer, they are alum with steel plates mounted to the floor. I took the metal off and made new bottom plates to work on the 67. Test fitted in the truck they are going to be perfect when the truck is complete. If you need more info just pm me.

Young one ........the base does look like the one I just put in my wife's 1994 f150 but you do need the seat tracks from the base to make that work.

Red403 Where did you get your seat base from?
I think there is a few regular cabs with the 40 20 40 seats that have that base.
The super cabs have a sliding seat base because they didn't have back doors yet.

Thanks Pat.

Youngone.......I have got 2 sets of the 40/20/40 seats from a reg cab now. Both of them I got from the pick n pull in Calgary Alberta. The first set I got was grey from a reg cab that I paid $80 for and sold them for $275. The second set was tan and I paid $64 for these ones but I used the red seats I already had. These ones are in the 94 and the black leather ones will go in my 67.
