Tool Box Lock

Need Help.
My 69 F-100 has a small tool box built in the right lower side of the bed. The Lock assembly is broke. Does anyone know where I can find info on the Lock Assembly or maybe where I can buy one at?

you might be able to get one from the parts wanted section of this forum or on ebay if you get lucky.

You might consider RV compartment locks. They are similar to tool box locks

northern tool sells latches similar to the toolbox door latch. but ours have a slight curve to them. so i dont know if any others will fit or not.

Okay thanks Fordman I will check them out also, I'm having a hard time finding anything on it. If I just had a picture of one then I might be able to fix mine. When I lift the handle it dosen't pull the latch down to aloow it to open.

i think they are called paddle latches. if i remember right they have a fork inside under the handle that pushes down on the release lever.

Same concept as what's found on O.E.M. Ford truck in-bed tool box latches, BUT as Fordman correctly pointed out, ours have curvature to them which follows the body contour of our truck beds.

You could certainly try one, the cost is low, with patients, you just might be able to roll the proper contour onto the face of it for proper alignment and fitment...that just might work.

The other thing to consider is the height, width and depth of that aftermarket paddle latch as that could make it a "no go."

If needed, I can take measurements off my O.E.M. paddle latch (it's still attached to my truck) to see how close that aftermarket latch matches up to an O.E.M. version.

Just let me know...

got whole box and lid. only thing is no key. its unloked so no prob getting in. maybe could buy lock itself somewhere. pm me if ure interested.

I did not have a key for mine and it was locked when I got the bed. I called a locksmith and for $20 he said could make a key but before I did that I got one of the straight ones off of ebay for about $6. I put the end that needed the curve in a vise and bent it to match the door. The body of the latch doesn't need to be curved (bent) just the edge of it.

I have the same problem on my 69, I am going to call a lock smith. My hope is the po kept his pre 65 silver coins in his truck!
