Hanger Flip Help

Post by f100fordtruck »

I'm doing the hanger flip and i was wondering where do I remount it? in the same spot just with it flipped, or do I have to move it back towards the rear of the truck?
I'll get it one piece at a time and it wont cost me a dime...

yes in the same spot just upside down. part of it will go above the frame and not be used to mount the bracket to the frame.

This is not my photo but I just completed mine and did the very same thing along with DJM's 3" dropped beams in front. As you can see, the black bolt heads are in two of the original holes while the gold headed ones are in newly drilled holes. It netted about a 4.5" drop. I then installed new shorter FRONT shocks for '73-'87 GM 1/2 ton pickups. Mine is a '69 so they have eyelets on BOTH ends of the shocks. The bushings that were in the new shocks were for a 1/2" shock mounting stud so I ordered a set of energy suspension bushings for the top eyelets only and replaced them (my '69 has 5/8" upper mounting studs).

BTW...this will throw your pinion angle out of whack. As near as I can tell, mine is out by 4-5 degrees but I've heard of another that was 6. I got a set of 4 degree shims for the leaf spring saddles to correct it (about 20 bucks from Summit). It should match that of the transmission's tail. I have yet to install them though. I'm beat until next weekend! :o

I noticed in this picture you lined the bottom left and top right holes up and drilled only 2 new holes. Will this mess anything up if i do it this way? or do I need to throw a square on it and line em up exact?
I'll get it one piece at a time and it wont cost me a dime...

Dream beams are the only bolt-on way to lower the front without creating negative camber issues. other alternatives include aftermarket IFS kit, but that requires cutting, welding, fabbing....

I enlarged the lower left hole from 7/16" to 1/2" on both the bracket and the frame. Then, I installed the lower left bolt (1/2" grade 8 ) just finger tight. Next, I used a large drift punch (a big screwdriver will work too) to align the upper right holes. With the drift punch still in the hole, I snugged up the first bolt. I removed the punch and again enlarged the holes to 1/2". Once both of these bolts were in and tightened up, I drilled the two remaining holes and finished it up. Repeat for other side. These two factory holes will line it up just fine.
