Should I return this brake booster or use it as is?

Hi! Today I was preparing to paint my new brake booster from Rockauto, and I discovered some damage hiding under the rubber boot in the input shaft. Here's the booster:



And here's a close up of the damaged area:



Should I bother to return this to Rockauto, or just use it as is? Since the damaged area is under the rubber boot it might not even matter. But it is funky looking for sure.

its broken check this thread. this has happened before. not from the same place but the damage has happened before. good thing i could remember who it happened to. http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... &sk=t&sd=a

Hey Fordman! Wow that is amazing; it's the identical issue, and on the exact same rebuild booster!

I'm sure glad I looked under the boot. If I hadn't been planning on painting the booster I wouldn't have! And I'm also glad I asked about this!

Just my but if you paid for a broken part keep it, if not, it goes back.

Thanks! Yeah that's good advice.

I asked them if I could return it for an exchange and they agreed. They (Rockauto) sent me a pre-paid Fedex shipping label for the broken one.

You know how it is with lots of reman' stuff. I'm hoping the next one is in better shape! But I'd say the probability of that is only 50%.
