I would look at the Case tractor/backhoe applications to see if a direct-drive unit exists.

The part number for the 3200 spring is 366 from bosch. There are some other numbers on the package, but don't have one handy to check.

Briney, can you clock your starter differently?

If you go with a 5 speed there isn't any clutch linkage. It's hydraulic. If you're sticking 4 speed you'd probably have to fab a a mount off the bellhousing bolts.

Got it from the 4BT swaps site,
it is Bosch number #1-464-650-366

Yeah, I guess so. I was thinking that is how I am going to have to tackle it.

If I swap to a ZF S5-42 in the future, will I have to swap over to hydraulic clutch, too?

Yes, you have to go hydraulic with a 5 speed. It's very easy, easier than fabbing mechanical by far.

i'm not really able to move the starter. i can't even rotate it as the drive pinion isn't in the centre. might have to examine the case option.

I wouldn't know where to start, or what parts to start looking for. I would like to see some pics of a completed conversion. My truck is a '79.

Next DoveBid auction is 9/19. I don't know if they're adding more truck or if the list is final, but there's 3 in Texas with 4BT/TH400 setups, 2 are driveable. Looking forward to see how much money I have on my debit card when that auction starts!!!

If you don't want to mess with the van, QCparts has at least a half dozen still in stock, with both Ford and Chevy trans attached.

What's the Cummins that is simply referred to as the "4B"?

Just wondering. I found a company called ARSCO that shows pics of both. I thought maybe the 4B was without turbo. But, in the pics it looks like the 4B has one. Link below - pics are in the lower right-hand column.

Wow this is one big thread

couple questions on the 3.9s:
What version will I need to get an inline injection pump.
Are the bread trucks they are in only sold in the US ?
What chassis was used for the Ford versions ?
why can I only find the 105 hp 4bt for sale?

Average F250: do you pull anything with the Mazda 5spd.?

I am looking at building a fuel efficient daily driver but may haul a trailer occassionally. using a shortened highboy frame or an original F100 shorty 4wd frame if I can find one. Also considering a 2wd shorty but maybe too heavy on the front for winter driving?

:fr: 8)
Collecting 67-72 Ford/Mercury trucks since 1980, collecting 73-79s since 1990 when the 67-72s started drying up. Now I'm culling the herd. None of my 67-72 will ever be for sale! They will need a big hole in the ground.

I'd imagine a 4B is a non-turbo 3.9.

The 4BT weighs less than a 460. No reason why you can't put one in an F-100.

The inline pumps are on the 130 horse 4BTA models and on most off-road equipment like case tractors and IR compressors.

I haven't towed more than a small trailer with the 4BT and mazda tranny. It's working great. I'd say for occasional light towing (under 15K GVW) you'd be fine with the mazda 5 speed. If you're going to be working it all the time then go ZF.

The inline pump engines are out there. There's one for sale on the 4BT forum right now for $2800. That's a pretty darn good deal really. The inline motors fetch a good bit.

The Ford chassis are mostly just E-350 grumman trucks. They all look the same chevy/ford.

Update on the M5R2: Just wanted to say a friend has a 4BT in a 96 F-250 4x4 that he backed with an M5R2 I threw together for him. Last week we stuck a late model dodge HO aftercooler in it, the 12CM housing and cranked the fuel up. The truck sits on 35"s with 4.10's and it gets on it pretty good, probably in the 250 HP range. He just got back from a long trip with a 5K pound trailer in tow over some pretty good passes and the M5R2 held up great. We drained the fluid for kicks and it was a little burnt, but for what it went through I'm impressed.
