re: The official 4bt conversion thread
Nope.... not going to the 6BT... don't need the power or the reduced fuel economy, or breakage...
Anyway, If you need help with Matt again, let me know ... maybe I can assist.
regards,
Eric

OOPS!
The new engine's running great, but the tranny I used was a real pile I pieced together from throwaway parts I had kicking around. It would pop out of third on hard engine braking and reverse synchros were done so I figured I'd jerk it out today and replace it with a new one I had all cleaned up and ready to go. Well I put the engine and tranny in initially with the body off the frame. Come to find out the transmission will not come out through the bottom. I'm considering cutting all the rivets out of the crossmember under the tranny in order to get it out because I really don't want to pull the engine again.
Just a heads up for those considering going to an integral bellhousing tranny.

Got the plane tickets, will be flying down on the 11th of August. What do you think I should expect to get for fuel mileage from these beasts??? Do you think I could change the springs before I drive them home????

I don't think I'd change the spring before driving it home. It'd increase your top speed, but you shouldn't really run the cummins above 2500 for sustained driving.
For the spring change you also need to make sure the IP is extremely clean so nothing can fall inside while you have it open. I'd want to do it at my home where if anything went wrong I wouldn't be stranded.

I think this is the only way to make a Monte Carlo cool:

It's a 6BT 24v, but still a Cummins
It's the only Monte that can tow a 10K pound trailer!

re: The official 4bt conversion thread
hi guys. i am doing the conversion on my '77 2wd f100 now. my truck originally had a 250 crossflow in it. it was converted to a cleveland at some stage in its life. i had to cut off, swap and reposition the frame stands. it went onto my t-18 ok. this is a temporary solution to get it all going and sorted. this may be a silly question, but i plan on towing a 3500-ish lb car trailer a bit. how do i go with gearing ? if i leave my 3.25's in there,in 4th gear at 65 will be around 2200 rpm. i am assuming towing in overdrive is a big no no. or is there a strong transmission that will do it ?

Re: re: The official 4bt conversion thread
That doesn't sound unreasonable to me. I have 3.50 gears in my F-250 but my tires are a bit taller at 33", so I am in a similar situation. I never drive the truck over 60-65 MPH anyways.briney wrote: how do i go with gearing ? if i leave my 3.25's in there,in 4th gear at 65 will be around 2200 rpm.
