Post by maverickfe »

Hey I have a 1967 F-100 4X4 390 right now it has an 4 speed in it.I would like to put an auto in it.I have a change too trade for a c6 auto that is suppose to be in an 1973-74 F250 2 wheel drive.Would it work? And what would I have to do to make it work.Or what years do I need too look for and what?

Thanks

it's going to depend on the bellhousing on the c6. if it's not for an FE, your gonna need one. go with a floor shifter, and it ought to be fairly simple. don't forget to snag the kick down rod for the c6.

doh'...just noted the 4x4..... i haven't a clue now.
sorry to waste your time.

It could, but would require more work than it's worth. F100's/F150's used a married transfer case (an adapter instead of tail housing). F250's had a divorced (seperated) transfer case untill 1977. Your best bet is to find an auto trans/transfer case assembly up to 1976. Preferably out of an F150 w/360/390. At least the 4x4 trans with adapter. If you could get the whole assembly it would be better as you would get all of the small parts you might otherwise miss. If possible, get the crossmembers, shifters, and drive shafts also. It will save you headache and money in the long run.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, another point of getting the assembly is that you probably have the single speed transfer case right now. By getting the 1973-1976 assembly, you should be able to score a two speed NP205 (very good).
