Coil Spring issues

Post by TexasTruck72 »

I recently replaced my front coil springs with Moog aftermarket 'stock' springs. They seem to be great quality.

My issue is, now one side of the truck is noticeably higher that the other side of the truck. My front driver's side corner sits 1" higher that the front passenger side. I verified this by taking comparison measurements at different places on the front side of the truck. On one wheel well peak, it's 30" from the ground and the other it's 29". I believe the guy I paid to install them did it correctly, just not sure what to do. I really don't want to have to take them out and swap sides with each spring.

And the funny thing is, there's a tiny sticker on the passenger side spring that says "driver side only". I really didn't think it mattered what side the springs went on because they looked identical(I measured them before installment too). Plus, if the passenger side coil spring is suppose to be on the driver's side, I don't want the driver's side to sit lower. It would make sense for the stronger of the two springs to be on the driver's side cause that's when most of the passenger weight is always. Either way, if I had the springs removed and put in eachother's place, the truck would still be 1" off from each side. Does anyone have any suggestions? :hmm:

soem aftermarket springs are taller on the passenger side than the drivers side to make up for the difference in engine weight. since the engine is offset to the passenger side. he probably put the sprigns on the wrong side. other aftermarket springs use a thicker material for the passenger side instead of a taller spring.

The springs are different and need to placed on the correct side. There is a picture showing the difference on used springs on the site somewhere (but cannot find it.) My guess is that Ford made different spring ratings because of additional wear and because of differnce torque applied.

Thanks fordman and bluef250 for your response. When I saw that tag on one of the springs that said driver's side only, I figured the 2 springs must be different. It makes sense now. I called the shop that put the coils on and they said they'd swap them for free. I'm glad I'll get this issue resolved soon.

Got my new coil springs re-installed after having them in on the wrong sides for 1 week. Much better now. Truck sits level and it feels/rides a whole lot better than it did before. The guys I paid to put them on said they'd never heard of coils being different on each side, but after I explained they understood.
