while trying to pull my front drums...

Post by layedout72 »

I come to find the passenger side with about 1/8 of the lip missing. Two good chunks out of the lip. Maybe this is a cause of vibrations for me! I'm sure there is more to it, but it may be a little bit of it anyways.

and of course I have to ask something! How DO you get them off? Do they come off just as the rears do? With a BFH and a towel to soften the blow? I don't mean to destroy it, just to knock it loose. Of am I missing something? Seems like the spindle/hub/wheel bearing comes out past the rim, and MAY hold it on....

I'll be taking mine off in a few weeks also and noticed I have big chunk missing off the passenger side front.

When I did the rears I had one that I had to hose down with PB blaster for a day. Then used a 2lb sledge and a short 2x4 and frammed...and I mean frammed around the center. After about 10 minutes of that it popped off.

Good luck.

this a 1/2 ton ? you might need to remove the dust cap, cotter pin, nut and washer, then the drum should slide off the spindle.

Those chunks are missing probably because the previous owner ALSO decided to use a BFH to try beating it off (I'll bet he didn't get very far ;) ) instead of removing it the correct way as Wes states.

Those missing chunks will definitely cause a vibration, it's usually felt more at higher "freeway" speeds...
It will be good to get that fixed, as front end vibrations are really hard on the suspension parts up there.

the only "cotter pin/nut" i see is on the back. Is that right? Or are talking about where the wheel bearing would be? The hub or whatever it is called, that sticks through the center wheel hole.

Rockauto.com

You'll save a LOT of money, even with shipping, for the same brands of parts you'll get at the parts store.

When I rebuilt my front end, I got most of the parts from them (aside from the shoe hold down springs/pins kit I got at Schucks) and it saved me about $175.00 over Schucks, around $225.00 over NAPA.
Thank you for being a www.RockAuto.com customer! To show our appreciation, we have a special discount for you.

Your discount code is:

635098574900

Here's how to use it:

* Enter your code in the "How did you hear about us" line of the shopping cart.
* If you are using our traditional HTML catalog, please click the "Set" button to the right of the field.
* Your discount will automatically appear, subtracted from your order total.

**NOTE: We sometimes get calls from people who put the word "discount" in front of their code and do not get the discount. Please enter ONLY the discount code, no other words or numbers.**

The discount takes 5% off our already-low prices, and there's no limit on order size or the number of orders. Use the code for your next order, and share the code with friends, neighbors, relatives, the guy at the corner garage--anyone you know who works on cars or trucks.

This discount code expires on June 12, 2007; so don't wait!

Yep..Money you can use to hang some fuzzy dice from your mirror, or one of them little trees that make your truck smell like ice cream, or, well, you get the picture.
