Article 2979 - Automatic Transmission - Reverse Clutch Pressure Plate Rebuilding

The reverse clutch pack in a C6 built prior to 10-3-69 requires a six plate assembly, however, a C6 built after this date will no longer accommodate the six plate pack. Should it be necessary to order a new case, it will only accommodate the smaller clutch parts. Details for rebuilding are below.

Rebuilding the reverse clutch of a transmission built prior to 10-3-69, the following procedure should be used (see Figure 6):

When it is necessary to order the entire -7005- case and a case with a date prior to 10-3-69 is received, the above scheme is used but two additional steel plates must be used in four plate clutch packs. An instruction sheet included with the service parts indicates the proper number of clutches required. Transmissions built after 10-3-69 have the latest modifications to the case. These are built according to the following scheme (see Figure 7):
