WEBMASTER'S NOTE: The following is an ongoing project
by Wes Adams to build a "Poor Man's 427", using a Ford FT 330 block
and other 'cast-off' parts. The posts were saved from the FordFE.com forums
and reposted here with Wes' permission.

This is part 2 of the connecting
rods for our Scrap Iron Beast! Slug a homebrew (or a can beer)
and enjoy this issue of "The Poor Mans 427"
Last issue we
did the big end of the rods. Now I'm going to show you how to do
the center-to-center on the rods. This will help to keep the
compression the same in all the holes...one rod wont be
longer/shorter then the other.
Here you can see Jack (the owner) setting up the
machine to punch out the hole for the rods.
As you can see
the rod is chucked up in the machine. We have the length that we
want. It will be 6.49" from center to center. We used my new
H-Beam rod for the master rod. So now we have our length that we
want. So when we put a rod in the machine, the only thing that
we have to worry about is the side to side! So here as you can
see, we will set the side-to-side up.
The right side is on zero as
well.
As you can see we are punching
a hole in the rod. Now we are leaving the hole a few thousandths
smaller then the finished produce for the wrist pin.
This is from the
back side.
Here we are going to hone it
out to the finished product. What a cool set of stock rods!
Here is the finished rod. What
a KILLER looking rod this is!
This is the clearance that you
should have on the small end of the rod.
Here is the H-Beam rod with a
Stock FE Rod.
In the next
issue of "The Poor Mans 427" I will show on how to come up with
your balance weight for your balance card! You wont believe the
weight savings that we came up with!
