WEBMASTER'S NOTE: The following is an ongoing project by Wes Adams to build a "Poor Man's 427", using a Ford FT 330 block and other 'cast-off' parts. The posts were saved from the FordFE.com forums and reposted here with Wes' permission.

Sorry that it has been soooo long on posting this kind of stuff. Had some problems with the Rods (we will talk about that later)! Been sick, work at the shop has picked up and so on.

Here we go, so get a beer and enjoy!

Today we are starting on some nasty looking C6AE-R Heads. You may be asking Why??? I would say why not...do with what you got!

I took those nasty heads and did some cleaning. They look like they have seen some better days. I washed them in the hot tank and then sandblasted them.

After we did all of that then I chucked it up in the head machine. Now it is ready for some work to be done.
Here I am, boring out the old guides in the head for starters!

This is what it looks like after the bore job.
Now we are going to take out the top of the guide, because we will be running a triple spring and we can use all the room that we can get. The new bronze valve guide will take its place. The valves have a 11/32" stem.
This is what we wanted, right here. Take a good look. I would say that is some damn good work if you ask me.
Now we put in the new guides in our head. We used Power Punch in the holes and on the new valve guides. Then we install them in the head.
Here we are looking down the exhaust port. That same bit that we used will be used to trim down the guide and boss to the ceiling of the port.

Here we did the same thing with the intake as well. We are trying to improve our flow numbers a little bit if we can by doing this. We put in solid guides because they are a little shorter then normal and we want them to live as long as possible!
Here as you can see we placed the head in the guide machine. We are going to hone out the guides for the 11/32" valves that we are going to use.

Here we have 2 valve stems in this vise-looking deal. The gauge goes in between the top and bottom of the jaws of the vise. We set it to zero.
Now we hone out the guide for the proper clearance for the valve stem.
Here we want .002" clearance for the valve stem & we end up a little short on that! .0015" is a little too tight. So we honed it a little more until we get what we needed!!!

There is a part 2 to all of this! Need to take a look. I highly recommend it.
