As I often do, I was surfing E-bay late one night looking for cool parts for my trucks, and ran across a listing for a truck that caught my eye. It was for an unfinished project truck...a '68 F100 with what was described as a 6" chopped top. I was curious about how much interest something like this would generate, so I bookmarked the auction and kept an eye on it. I was figuring there was $2000 worth of body work done to the cab and doors and that it would at least bring that much.

"Up for sale is a 1967 Ford F-100. This is a project I started and just plain lost interest. My loss is your gain. This truck has been custom made which has been chopped six inches. The doors have also been shaved. The body is in good condition with little to no rust. Everything is there to put the body together except for the core support which could be replaced with a new one. Most of the body is in epoxy primer except the front clip. The frame has been sand blasted, cleaned and then painted. The frame is complete. There are a lot of extra parts that come with the truck. All that needed to be chopped is already done so the hard work is done. The chop job looks like it came from the factory. It is done well. It comes with a 1971 Ford 460 with flat top pistons with no ridge wear, has D0V-C heads (original) and original intake. It has a C6 heavy-duty ribbed transmission. The motor needs to be assembled with new gaskets. The bottom end is assembled but the top half needs to be. This will make a fun project for someone and should be a lot of fun when finished. However, when the E-bay listing didn't seem to generate a lot of page hits and only a couple bids, I was even more intrigued. I talked it over with my wife and since she didn't specifically say "no", I decided I'd enter a $1000 snipe bid on the truck and take a chance. However, several minutes before the auction was due to end, I decided to drop that bid down to $800 and take a chance....since I really didn't NEED another project, though it would be cool to have. I really figured there'd be some furious last-second bidding, so I wasn't holding my breath on this one.

However, on August 23rd, 2006 (the day the auction ended), I was shocked that not only were there no other last-seconds bids, but that I actually won the auction....for $573.81!!

The truck was located in Vermontville, Michigan...so this meant another road trip for the family. Since my wife is normally very busy with her job, it took several weeks trying to arrange for 5 days off to make the trip. We finally got it nailed down to the the first week of October.
