Date code

For some reason I cant post pictures but how do you tell the date of manufacturer off the data plate on the rear end? Mine reads 6GC i believe. I know its from a 1966 Mustang. Is the 6 the year or the month? They changed production mid year and I need to know the date it was made.

If I recall, the first number represents the last digit of the decade. First letter is the month followed by the day.

So yours should be July 3rd, 1966.
