Safety Switch????

Post by Billyd »

I have a 1969 F100 automatic transmission. I replaces the turn signal switch a while back. Before I did this I had to fool around with the shift lever to activate the starter. I cleaned and greased everything where I thought appropriate and reassembled. I am still having the same issue. It even may be worse. When shifting the whole collar moves up and down the shaft. I have friend thinks it should not do that. I have searched but cant find reference to this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, the collar should not move other than to rotate, not up/down. Sounds like your neutarl safety switch is out of adjustment. Here's my rebuild thread for an automatic column. Look it over and see if you notice anything odd about when you istalled your turn signal switch.
