oh i almost forgot you are suppose to put the negative cable on last. its also the first one your suppose to remove when taking the battery out. or even when working on the truck.

its really weird because i started it the day before with it in neutral and no clutch then i changed the alternator and went to start it up and no go. the only thing i can think of is the ground on the alternator is not grounding but i put it on the post that said GRD

i think you can start an engine without the alternator. and i know you can remove the battery from a running engine. how did crossing the soilnoid do? anything?

i havent had a chance to cross the sylonoid, what two posts do i need to cross, the one from the battery and the one going to the starter?

i disconnectd the neutral safety switch a long time ago. today i put a fresh battery in it and still nothing.

you cross the battery side of the soliniod with the closest to the battery small terminal on the solinoid.

well i dun it but nothing happened- no spark or nothing, that usually means the solonoid is bad right? or could it be my negative battery cable. keep in mind i just replaced that alternator so let me know if i could have screwed up there to. the only other thing i have not done is checked the fuses underneath the dash.

then its either the cables . the connections or the battery.

When ever you replace an alternator it's a good idea and recommended to change out the voltage regulator. I recently had some starting problems and ended up replacing an ignition switch, started solenoid, Alt, battery and coil. Ended up my problem was the positive wire on the Alt was breaking apart and was only making contact on vibrations, in turn it wiped out my voltage regulator and killed the Alt. When I replaced the alt and no voltage regulator it overcharge my fairly new optima and blew acid all over my engine compartment. So back to the store for a voltage regulator and a new red top. lesson learned. Like stated above check your connections even where you have factory connectors for decaying.
