INSTALLING SIDE MARKER LIGHTS ON MY 68 F100 131 LWB FLARESIDE

Post by Fordyarddog »

:hmm: :hmm: :hmm: Gentleman I have a 68 F100 131 LWB Flareside, 12 Volt, 3 in the floor, 390 V8 4 Barrel, no air just heat, Power Steering and Brakes. CD FM/AM Radio. My plan is to fix it up and sale it but I have decided to keep it. Looking over it in the beginning I have found a lot of problems. I have corrected almost all of them. I want to put side markers on it. I have the marker lights that's not problem. I can make and install the circuit that not's problem. I know it can be connected to the 20 Amp fuse through the R and B pins on the light switch. I just need to know one thing, what gauge wire do I need to use. The marker lights that I have have a 18" lead 16 gauge wire. These lamps have a .3 Amp draw. 1.2 total Amp draw. I have been told to use 18 which has a 4.5 Max Amp, a 16 which has a 7 Max Amp and I have been told to use 14 which has a 15 Max Amp. I figure I will need 35 to 40 feet of wire to do this plus connectors and 3-ways. The Ford wiring diagrams doesn't show any wire gauges for anything. What do you gentlemen say. Or should I say, what gauge wire did Ford use when they did start installing marker side lights.

   Hey 390FE1972. Thank you so much. This chart has answered a lot wiring gauge unknowns. According to this chart its 14 gauge all the way. I have made a copy of it for my records. I do have one more question. What years span does this chart cover.
