69/72 LH Outside Remote Mirror

Post by LegalRevs »

Mates, I have a 69/72 outside remote mirror I want to install on my 1970 F-100. I can't find any info on where the remote control is to come through the inner door/door panel. The cables are only about 10 inches long from the base to the handle. Anyone have one of these or know where the whole for the remote control knob goes through the inner door or door panel? Thanks in Advance

Really?

Over 35 years of working on our bumps and never seen a OEM Ford remote control mirror on the trucks.
Yes plenty of them on Stang's / Chero's / Fairlane's / Cougar's and more but our trucks really? :hmm:

I have never seen one on any of our trucks before either, so it must have been very rare. It was an option for the trucks and you can see a picture in the options section of the 1970 brochure (page 10). http://www.fordification.com/library/in ... tegory/230 Just click on the 1971 album.
There is a schematic under the mirror section that shows the location of the standard mirror, so maybe you can use this and the length of the remote cord to determine the location of the hole for the remote on the inside of the cab on the door.

The base has the correct engineering number cast into it that matches up to the engineering number in master parts book. Listed as a 69/up remote mirror for the F series trucks. The adjusting cables are so short, 10-12 inches that I "think" the control must come through the inside door somewhere below the vent window but above the door panel. But, I too, have never seen one before. Thanks.

The engineering number cast into the base matches the engineering number in the master parts book listed for a 69/up F Series truck. The cables are so short 10-12 inches only, that it seems the only place it will work is below the vent window and above the door panel. But before go drilling a hole in the inner door I thought I would see if anyone else has run across this? Thanks,

I'm not sure if I'm remembering or imagining seeing it before but if it's a memory, then I believe it was right around here.

Here's a photo I found over on "that other site" on a dent side.

:yt: if you go to the 1972 Ford truck dealer brochure under Albums (left side of page), on page 9 it shows a picture of a Ranger XLT with a dog in the cab. You can see the remote switch in that location. http://www.fordification.com/library/in ... tegory/230
There is also a picture in the 1970 Ford truck dealer brochure on page 5.

They were rare even for my 71' Ranchero!
I'd be willing to bet it was the same part number as the Chero' as it looks the same? :hmm:
