Freebie 1967 F250

Post by Ohiotinkerer »

Since I got it ready to move on my last trip to TN I thought it was about time to start a project thread on it! 1967 F250 with a 1973 360, NP435, Dana 60 rear with 4.56 gears (explains the not original engine and the engine in it being locked up), Lunar Green with darker green interior trim. Been setting in the same spot for 21 years so I broke out the Milwaukee 18v impact and got the tires off to work on getting the brakes loose and was pleasantly surprised to see that a couple whacks with the sledge broke them loose enough to spin 3 of the 4 by hand.......and the most pleasant surprise of all was the kingpins aren't seized up - steering wheel turned with no effort! Its gonna need a hood, floor pans and cab mounts due to moisture and the bed floor is shot from water laying in it but everything else is pretty solid on it. Biggest surprise was the owner's manual still in the glove box with the original owners name, address, date he bought it and the dealer he bought it from and the keys with the "record this number and destroy" tag still on them! Right now the plan is to get it moved to my retirement property in the spring so I have a project for when I don't have to punch a time clock anymore. As it stands right now its gonna have a CV front and Tbird Supercoupe IRS for the rear and a warmed over 300 I6 with a T5 5speed. So far I've gathered up the suspensions and a running engine and started work on that stuff with the plan of only having to do body, paint, and fab work..........that's after I clean all the junk out of it and blow off all the mud dauber nests from the underside....they turned the underside and all the cracks and crevices into a condo community...........

She's ugly and rough and I really hate working on stuff that requires heat wrenches, ratchet extenders, garage words, band aids, tetanus shots, pest removal and lots of Jack Daniel's to calm the nerves but for free with a title and the need to be doing something when I'm not working I couldn't pass up the chance to put it back on the road again..... :D

Will do! It will be a long process and I've already been accused of being nuts for not finding something better but I guess I see things for what they can be and not what they are......and 30 years of being a machinist with some minor weld and fab skills helps......

The engine i picked up for it......nice clean California motor with a 1968 casting date!

Got it from a guy in Akron who took it out of a 1965 Econoline he bought and drove from California to Ohio - complete from fan to transmission for $400......I figured since he drove it home all that way and had a video of it in the van running that it was a fair price and it had the bellhousing and flywheel i needed for the T5 swap. Haven't done much with it so far except get it on an engine stand and pull a few things I'm not gonna use but there's no hurry on it........... :D

Opinion time guys.......this is a ways off from happening but I'm debating whether or not to repaint it in the stock Lunar Green or not. My wife seems to like it - after I showed her what it looks like not all faded out....... - but I don't know if it would fit what I will be doing to the rest of it. I thought if I keep the color of maybe adding a little metallic to it or going a 2 tone route. My other I was thinking is changing it completely to Calypso Coral with a beige interior since its another not so common color that was used on our bumps - let me know what y'all think!

Calypso Coral was one of the best original colors IMO. Not that common but a real eye catcher.
Reef Aqua another one of my favorites -

<meant to say “Swiss Aqua” —was looking at my color charts today.>

Dont really like Lunar Green...Chrome Yellow is a difficult color - ever notice how many varied-color ‘Chrome Yellows’ there are? Some are almost like School Bus Yellow and others are the darker true Chrome Yellow which is a awesome color!

If I ever get a good paintjob for my beater I’d like to get the same color as the Yellow Truck Shipping trucks color.
That color is called “Swamp Holly Orange”. :P Wish I could aquire a couple gallons!

I like that orange too!.... .....I also know what you mean about the Chrome Yellow - my paint guy is pretty good at mixing what I want though so it doesn't come out looking like I robbed a school bus garage...... Also have thrown Grabber blue in the mix after looking at this.......

I found this after doing a quick search.....this it the shade of Chrome Yellow i would want....... :D

I wanted the brighest, loudest, gaudiest red I could find. Not an original F100 color but another member showed me this Southern Polyurethanes red and I was hooked. Got my interior painted and it looks awesome, IMHO. Can't wait till I can get the rest of her covered.

Here's the photo he showed me that got me hooked.
