1970 fe 360 dipstick/ tube correct routing.

Post by mdbaker42 »

I need help from any of my friends out there who would be willing to send me a couple of pictures or, info on any sites that would have clear pictures of the route of the dipstick/ tube assembly, from oil pan to where the bracket bolts to the forward exhaust bolt. I’ve got a 1970 F250 4x4, 360cid 4 speed W/long tube headers. S.N.A.F.U ed it by not paying attention at disassembly. I’d even appreciate a very clear description. Thanks, Mike.

Thanks bro for your quick response. I appreciate it. BUT... Welcome to my nightmare. Some of the 70 F250 4x4s like mine just had to be a little different/ difficult. Ford decided to not run the tube through a hole in the block and instead, send it directly into the turned around oil pan. Lacing it through the exhaust manifold somehow. I’ve scoured through tons of data and it’s like nobody thought of taking a picture. Anyway, thanks. If you own the truck with the engine picture? Superb. Congrats.

I wish! My truck's in pieces (see project thread in signature). Couple of fine examples on the main site Photo Galleries page. http://www.fordification.com/photogalleries.htm

the dipstick support for a 4x4 is anchored to the third from the front of the engine upper ex manifold bolt, I'm 99 percent sure. I look through some of my old pics but the one I thought that would show it has the washer reservoir in the way. When I go home I'll snap a pic of mine but I prob wont get to posting it until Monday.

Hey Sargenters? Are you still here? I looked at your project and ,Well, I can't disagree. Yep, she's broke down alright. But I'd say your off to a great start. After looking at the pictures, the steps and the progress made so far? I'd bet the farm that she's gonna be a beauty. Good luck buddy and Merry Christmas.

Here is how my 68 4x4 dipstick is attached. It bolts to the second (from the front) upper exhaust manifold bolt then goes down the outside of manifold straight down into oil pan.
Have a picture but its to large to post.

That's odd, mine has a shorter mounting tab and bolts to the 2nd exhaust bolt.

oh that's interesting. I wonder if its just a subtle change through the run or somebody cut and modified one to make it easier to reach? I only have 70-72s so this could just be a pre-70 thing. I will check one of the others and see what they have for a dipstick tube.

This is where mine is located on my 75 Highboy too. I have long tube headers and the dipstick comes up between the 6 and 7 cylinder header tubes.
