1 wire alternator swap

Post by 6873highboy »

Hello all! I was looking through the 3g alternator sticky and stumbled on a post be a fella (Fomocoloco72) that used an alternator out of an older Saab 900.
I happen to have two of those 80amp alts and I’m trying to figure out the best way to wire it into my 68 f250.
The only thing I’m confused with is that he said to use the resistor wire from old ford regulator to initiate charging?
Which wire is that and where do I put it? Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks!

I think you're referring to the notes on upper side of this diagram in the thread. Haven't done this so don't know what it means but I'd be interested in what you figure out.

I'll need to sort through some dash wiring first...I have an F600 gauge set with what I'm assuming is a non-operational ammeter. I can't remember if this truck had full gauges or just a warning light for the amps.
