Gauge Swap

Post by jf100 »

I have a 69 f 100 I think my gas gauge is not working right. I have a gauge cluster from a 72 ranger pick up that has a printed circuit on the back. Can I swap the gauges from the 72 to the 69? Is there a way to test them before doing the swap as I am planning to put in white gauge back ground on
the gauges. Thanks for any help. This site has helped me a lot on doing things to my truck.

There is some good info in these two Fordification articles that might help, on the first one scroll down to the instrument cluster section of the article. The second article is about sending units etc. You should be able to take the gas gauge off the 1972 instrument cluster and put it on your 1969 cluster. There are a couple of very good Youtubes by Autorestomod on how to test your gas gauge and gas sending unit: Autorestomod Episode 319 Classic Ford F100 Fuel Sender Gas Gauge Testing, and How to Classic Car Ford Gauge Diagnosis Episode 8 Manic Mechanic. Hope this helps!
