eBay welder

Post by gregamorton »

Guys thoughts on this welder? Seems like a lot of features for decent money. 60 on duty cycle seems good compared to a bunch of the cheaper brands. I’ve posted before looking for welder but I cant justify spending big money on something that will be used so little. Floor pans, motor mounts and a C notch is what I’m looking at doing. Thanks ahead of time.

My dad gave a good example years ago about a stereo that had 15 components for under $100, that each part was very cheaply built. Swap part for function and I wouldn't expect it to last or do what you want for long.

I understand that thought process. I’ve been looking for a used name brand for decent price no luck so far.

Same one is available at your local Home Depot. https://www.homedepot.com/p/AMICO-POWER ... /304254567 Only $50 more but at least you'd be able to talk to someone locally if there was a problem.

I wouldn't even consider it myself. Buy it once and never regret.

I have my Harbor Freight mig welder for the last 5 years. Only thing I have done to it is replace the tip. I use it to do sheet metal and Frame work. It has four heat setting and gets good penetration on the frame with ok duty cycle.

I don't pretend to know your skill level, but Tig isn't an easy process to learn, and stick isn't really well suited to sheet metal. I'd recommend a Mig for the things you want to do - it's way more versatile and user friendly. If you're set on a new welder and you don't mind taking a chance on a cheaper unit, try Harbor Freight. Their newer welders aren't too bad, and at least you'll have a physical store to return it to if you have problems.
A used name brand welder would always be my recommendation, but I understand that only works if someone's selling one in your price range. And whatever you get, spend the extra to get a gas set up.

Forget those cheap ebay welders. They are not worth the money and hassle.
