Gas tank color?

Post by redstone65 »

The old gas tank that we scrapped from the 70 was black painted on the outside. Was that original?

Also the gas cap was the same color as the body (boxwood green). Is that typical also?

The 1967 to 1969 in cab gas tanks were painted the body color, the 1970 to 1972 gas tanks were painted black. Not sure about the gas cap color, but I believe it was painted the body color.

Cool. Thank you. I like the gas cap painted. Think it looks sharp.

So will the vandals. Pick up a locking one now and keep the painted one for shows. :cuss:

I had a locking cap on my '65 for a while and I never could get it to seal/vent properly. Gas would just pour out of the filler neck when I went around corners and when parking on a slope to the left. Do you know of a locking cap that vents correctly?

Can't go wrong with NOS parts - I bought one - these are vented and are the correct part number according to my 1968 Autolite parts catalog.......

Well that’s cool. I never think about NOS because of the cost premium but that’s do-able for less than $20. Thanks!
