has anyone done a 5 speed out of a 90's 2wd ford and mated it up to a fe

You're asking a lot from those little Mazda units putting them behind an FE

Honestly they aren't much better. I've had enough of them apart to NOT recommend them for any serious duty. They shift sloppy, the synchro's are weak and they aren't built well.

Don’t ZF have integral bell housings? That is your first issue because I don’t think they were ever made for FE’s.

You can get adapters. That's what we did for a Cummins swap. PITA tranny's to work on.

I was looking into the nv 4500 I think I am going to go that way thanks guys :thup:

It's really easy, remember that you aren't stuck with just the Dodge version. You can also use the 2nd gen Chevy version by simply changing the input shaft to the longer Dodge style.
