Drip Rail Metal Clips

Post by 390FE1972 »

First question is in regards to the function of the four metal clips on the drip rail, there is a metal clip on both sides of the drip rail where the two back roof panels come together, and there is a metal clip on each side of the drip rail near where the A post comes up to the drip rail. Are these designed to help hold the panels of the roof together? The reason I ask is that I have a set of chrome drip rail moldings that I found in the junk yard but I didn't pay attention when removing them if these clips were on the truck under the chrome molding. The truck is no longer in the junk yard, so I can't go back and check on it. My other question is, does the chrome drip rail molding go over these four metal clips or do you have to remove them to put the molding on?

Thanks

all drip rails are the same, the molding just snaps on covering what you have. I doubt your moldings are chrome.

Are you talking about these clips? They're just to cover the ends where the pieces join.

If I remember correctly , on a '77 I had to grind the clips off to put chrome trim on the drip rail.
Their function is to hide the gaps when joining the drip rail , the chrome does that.

Thanks for the responses! Yes the picture is of the metal clips I am talking about. What is the reason these four clips are on the drip rail? Is the drip rail one piece or several pieces with the clips holding them together?

The drip rail is multiple pieces. The clips are to hide the seams and keep the ends from curling.

Once again, no modifications necessary to add drip rail trim.
