1969 F100 4x4 Coyote Swap ??

Post by yyzf100 »

I bought a 1969 F100 long box 4x4. NP 435, Dana 21. it has a 360FE in it now but it's a dog. VIN says OEM engine was the 240 Inline 6. I"ve thought about rebuilding the 360 to a 390 or bigger ( 431 Survival is tempting, but EXPENSIVE ! ) or just doing the top end on my existing 360... but I want reliable power, from a dependable engine. I also thought about doing a stroked 351W swap, but my hangup is that I don't have the space, time or skills to be doing the work required.
After lots of research and changing my plans again and again.... A Mopar engine builder friend suggested I just buy a turnkey crate engine, and get it installed and driving.
I want to have 400 hp and similar tq numbers. I'd like to keep the manual trans in it. I plan to install a 4" lift and 33 or 35" tires. this truck will mostly be a weekend cruiser. Not aggressive off road use, but it would be cool to take fishing just the same.
SO.... I found a guy online called www.lsswaps.com in Ohio. I'm only considering using a Ford powerplant. but he sells turnkey, ready to install Coyote packages from either Mustang or F150 4x4 trucks.
Has anyone tried installing one into a 4x4 bumpside truck yet?
Any info or advice? I have a mechanic who wants to put a new engine in my truck. As I won't be doing it myself.
I"m just looking for advice on the Coyote please. Not your 2 cents on the benefits of rebuilding the FE.... thanks
1969 F100 4x4. 360, 4Spd. Just getting started...

Not a 4x4 and he went a lot further than you're planning but good info on installing a coyote and 6 spd manual tranny. http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... 22&t=79876
