Special Interest Registration

Post by 72bumbee »

Just wondering if my truck would qualify for a special Interest registration and plates?
I have a 1971 Timberline travel trailer that qualified as I am a member of a club supporting the Make.
Couldn't this forum be considered as a club?
Not sure how registration works in other states, but in Oregon you can pay a one time fee for special interest plates, and never pay registration fees again.
What say you-ALL??

Pennsylvania does Antique Plates which are a one time registration and inspection for as long as you own the vehicle. However the restriction on use are tight as copied from the PA DMV website.

The use of antique, classic and vintage registration plates is governed by Section 1340 of the Pennsylvania
Vehicle Code, which states: “It is unlawful for any person to operate a motorcycle or vehicle with antique,
classic or vintage registration plates for general daily transportation. Permitted use shall be limited to
participation in club activities, exhibits, tours, parades, occasional transportation and similar uses.” Occasional
transportation and similar uses are defined as no more than one day a week

To me its not worth just sitting and looking at something I want to drive it or ride it when I want to.

Note Vintage Plates in PA are period correct plates 1906 to 1976 that you want to display on the vehicle in place of the currently issued plates. You know when they used to issue a plate with the year stamped into it.

I don’t think the cops are on the lookout for drivers of hobby cars, unless you are really just abusing it. If it’s a daily driver get normal registration for your vehicle.
If your truck really is a hobby vehicle and you dont use it except occasionally, don’t worry about it, and drive it when you want to.
Once a week is 52 rides a year - more or less! 8)

Try to give yourself a good estimate of how often your truck will be driven each week, or each month, and go from there.
And then give that reasoning to any cop that stops you for your classic car plates.

In MD, farm tags are $7 per 2 years with full use up to registered load. Much cheaper versus antique or historic's (@ $60 per year) with very limited use like PA's. For a truck and historic or antique tags, no load in the bed, even your dog. We used to see a ton of historic junkers but the LEO's have taken most off the road.
