Project Floyd: today was paint blend day! Using liberal amounts of elbow grease, a scotch brite pad, and rubbing compound, I was able to blend the new paint into the old paint/patina. Pretty happy with how the truck looks, especially after it was waxed! I took it out and about for a few pictures... and may have discovered why I have such a problem with rear tires.

Project Floyd: I was able to get out of work early today and decided to machine a switch mount for the shifter. This switch is a single pole, double throw momentary switch that allows the transmission control module to be switched over to manual mode. This enables the driver to manually up and down shift the transmission... very important for towing (wink, wink).

So how wide if the crown vic frame? and the width is 78" is that outside wheel to outside wheel? Asking for a Jeep project I'm thinking about building. Good looking stance. With all these CV swaps, is there a way to lower the front end of a CV?

What part of the frame are you wanting a width on? Its not a ladder frame like what the trucks had originally. The body width on a crown vic is 78", the outside track width is around 72-74". The widest part of the frame is pretty close to what the outside track width is. The front can be dropped with different springs or bagged.

thanks biggurn, that helps. Another question, why did you go with the year CV you got? I have found some 97-2001 CV frames but the old style front end, does that make a difference? Thanks

Everyone agrees that the '03 and newer are the better years. Being an '07, my P71 had all the performance items found in the performance oriented Mercury Marauder, as well as a 4R75E transmission, Trac-Loc rear end, and 3.55 gears.

biggurn wrote:Project Floyd Update: when I bought this truck and saw the passenger side tool box, I knew I'd have to do what I had not seen on other builds: Floyd would have to have a functional toolbox.

Today I made that happen. Last year about this time I built the door. Since then, I've just been enjoying the driving experience. Now though, I have plans to complete other things on Floyd, so the tool box needed done. All in all, it wasn't too bad. Just a lot of measuring, cutting, fitting and welding. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out!

148.5 hours invested.
Love it. I did my tool box a couple years ago, and people always comment about it when they notice it.

Built a little trailer for towing behind Ol' Floyd

I've decided to do a manual transmission swap, more to follow on that, once I have all the parts and pieces collected.

It's doing great! I daily drive it. Still working on gathering the parts for a transmission swap, but haven't had much luck in that realm.
