Drilling C6 Governor to increase WOT shift.

I need to raise the shift point on my C6 about 1000-1200 RPM (It is a truck transmission) and I’m told that drilling the governor weights to reduce the weight is the way to do this.

Does anyone know or have an specifications or blue prints that relate the weight to the RPM.

Someone in the past mentioned using the governor assembly from a 351 Cleveland powered car, but I haven’t been able to find one. If I could find a source for new or remanufactured governors that would be fine too.

That can happen. At least you can search the threads there to see what you come up with. Ive seen info on that subject there.

i can't seem to get a work in edge wise over at network 54 but it a good site as far as what i've seen. now that other site is bad as far as what i've seen.

The FE Forum is fantastic. I even get good C-6 info there.

The trans forum not so much...

I did finally get one answer about my C6 stock stall on the Transmission forum. Monty said it was about 500 to 600 rpm. But I do not know if that is right or not.

Sounds like you are getting close to your answer on the FE site. Drilling and tapping then inserting removable weights sounded like an interesting idea.

This stuff is pretty interesting. When I get my truck back I may have to start looking for a project I can experiment with. My truck ought to be able to tow or haul just about anything I can find to drag home.

Howdy69, that stall speed is not right. You're engine would stall-out that low. What model truck do you have and engine? I can look it up.

DuckRyder, isn't there another governor off the car line that you could swap? The smallblock C6 is tough to find. I know on C4's the Pinto governor is the hot ticket.

Yes I think the FE forum guys have me on the right track. I've already done all the valve body modifications Jay Broader recommended. They helped a bit.

Seems I can still buy the Cobra Jet Governor and when I get home from N.O.L.A . I am going to get to work on it as soon as my new converter arrives. I'll start by drilling it and if i mess it up, I'll just buy a CJ one.

Not much, maybe 100 RPM higher at the most.
