Legacy plates in Ca

Post by Mancar1 »

I am waiting to see, if implemented, how the Ca. DMV legacy program will work out. I figure a bunch of new vehicles will have the older color plates on them. Of course the new black, ect plates will not be exact reproductions of the old ones.
I do not see it taking away from the YOM plates, as long as the state sticks with making the Legacy plates somewhat different than original.
Although I cringe at the thought of seeing a 2014 Stang with a black plate.
The Legacy program looks to be a little more $$ than Yom, but easier to come by.
Keep on Trucking..........I YOM........John

2014 Mustangs will not be eligible for Legacy plates... only those vehicles that would have been offered with black plates are eligible to get one. For example, my 71 Pontiac can only be retrofitted with yellow copy on a blue background because 71s would have had them.

... that's why the DMV needs a minimum number of sign-ups in order for the program to be implemented.

Not true... That only applies the YOM program (and only black and yellow and older. Blue and yellow do not apply to YOM yet). The new Legacy plates will be available to ANY vehicle regardless of year. They are treating them as vanity plates and will be available in custom ordered format. People that order them though will not be able to get previously issued formats, so while they can have their black and yellow plate read "HOTROD1", they cannot order it to read "NFD 123" as they were originally issued.

So when the Legacy plates become available, you WILL see 2014 Mustangs with black and yellow plates...

Georgia allows you to have original plates on pre70 vehicles. You have to have the current plate in the car and an affidavit from the tag office about the old plate to show if requested. I have a 67 tag ready but kind of question now if I really want to provide another excuse to be stopped.
