help with fenders or fender flairs.

Post by gregamorton »

Guys I am looking for ideas for my one ton 4x4. I want to do some kind of bolt on fender or a flair that will cover 3" or so. I have seen some roll material used for this but it looks like it could be flimsy. Bushwacker has a cutout fender for the 73-79 but not sure how it would work or look. Any ideas or suggestions? I would like to find something that looks good and have them coated with bed liner.

Got me curious so I did a quick cut and paste for side by side comparison. Got a photo of a dent from our sister site and resized a pic of my truck over it so they'd be roughly the same. Looks like the front fender well is pretty similar on both the dent and a bump but the rear is considerably different. The front looks good everywhere but the bottom front curvature. The rear is pretty different between the two. Unless those dent flares were pretty flexible I don't think it'll fit very well on the rear.

The bushwacker ones are over sized for bigger tires so you cut the bed. I was thinking if I cut a bit off the bottoms and move it down a bit they might work. I just found a set of two that is for a 2000 ford on ebay for next to nothing and going off soon. shipping is over $50 though. I would not mind the building some route but only if I was going to paint the whole truck. My paint should buff out nice so I am in kind of a limbo on what I want to do.

Those are hideous!

Why not put 4 wheels on it instead of 6?

Ive got a set of fender flairs that looks to be like those on the jeg's site on my dumptruck. Mine are about 10 years old and there still nice and flexable, But good looking they will never be.

I've had to rub them against tree's trying to back into tight places and it really don't seem to hurt them because they look the same as they did when they were put on there, just a few scrape marks here and there.

I think they would be the toughest set of flairs you could use, but on the down side not the best looking.

They show to be coming in today so we will see soon. I remeasured and my rear tires are just about 5" past fender so I think these will do what I need just hope there not hideous!

My thoughts if I saw your truck-

Sweet a DRW bumpside!

Why doesn't it have DRW fenders or a flatbed???

Boy those flares are inadequate.

I personally (and get this a lot from others) feel DRW's have a certain place. No offence, but why is this DRW? It can't possibly need 6 tires on the ground, there's no way in hell it could use them. I bought my '96 Dodge as a DRW and swapped it to SRW stuff over a few months to include a HP Ford 60. It can tow 15K and not really notice it and it weighs 7700.

I don't know what size those tires are, but if they're 255/85's I would put them on stock 90's Ford wheels and mount 4 of them up with 2 for spares. They'd look great, no flares needed!

I went back with 235 85 16s instead of the 255 85 16s that was on it. I wanted a skinny 33 but did not want to use spacers between the tires. I prefer a flatbed but have not found the style I like for a decent price. I figured in the long run the more stock tire would be better with the 3.54s any way! I was planning on selling this truck but really am enjoying driving it and want to find me a nice vintage camper to pull behind it one day.
