Intermediate wipers

Post by blue68 »

I was trying to put Intermediate wipers on my 68 truck yesterday. I did the proper shortening and everything. I grounded it too. All my connections are good, because my non-intermediate switch worked fine.

When i hooked everything up, I flipped the switch and a grinding noise happened. Then it was almost like the wipers tryed to lift, but couldnt quite make it.

What do ya'll think is wrong.

I really appreciate all of you guy's help. Thanks.

were the wire backwards or something? it sounds like the motor isn't engaging properly for some reason.

naw, the wires were good. I'm guessing its probably the actual switch thats bad, seeing as I got it out of the junkyard. I just wanted to know what ya'll thought

how would the switch make a grinding noise? matbe not enough voltage through the switch to the motor?

Why would the regular old wiper switch work fine though?

if something internal in the switch was bad it would put the correct amount of voltage out to the motor. meaning the switch was bad like you said. i would think a multimeter would be able to tell the difference between the old one and the new one to tell if the new one was bad.

yeah, this is prety vague.. what was "grinding" ?? was it the motor it's self or ?? I'm thinking you might have something caught up in the linkage.
An electric motor would produce a hum type sound if it was moving slowly due to insufficent voltage. Do the wipers work at all in low or high ? How about the intermitant side, anything there?

This is actually sort of funny-- When in "off" position, the wipers work fine. <-- I forgot to mention that.
