I have a new 180 thermostat in my truck. So what I need to know is all the reasons why my temp guage could possibly not work. :lol: If you guys can tell me any past experiences you have had it will save me alot of time and trouble. I will try to answer any questions, but I have not messed with it much. Oh yeah, my engine is a 360. Also with my old thermostat I could not get hot air out of my heater. Now I can.

The Guage works of the same voltage controller as all the other ones
in the dash. Ground the wire on the sending unit to the block. Doe's the
guage show hot?

Do the other gauges work? If not, the constant voltage unit (controller) in back of the instrument panel may have died. This voltage regulator converts 12 volt to about 5 volts for the oil, temp, and fuel gauge. The circuits are completed to ground by the sending units or fuel float(s). You may also have air in the cooling system. Leave radiator cap off until you see fluid circulating. Most of the air will leave the engine block unlike some of the newer engines.

All the other guages work except for the alt, and the temp. My guage stays on cold the whole time.

after you check the fuses of course check to see if you have power to the gauge. if you do then i would say gauges went bad.

maybe the sender is bad. Mine was. If you test the gauge as Jake has said and it goes to hot, then I would think it is the sender.

i am planning on putting a temp guage on mine this weekend, but first i'll check the fuses, i bought one from Napa.

Hey guys I grounded it out, and the guage showed hot. My old intakes sending unit was out, and the edelbrock performer I bought had one already on it that was also out. I thought that was unlikely, but thats what was it. Thanks for the help. Now all I need to figure out is the alt guage. :hmm:

Glad you got it worked out.

I think the alt gauge doesn't look like it's working even if it is working.

Right...even with the ammeter IS working, the needle moves such a small amount that it's basically unusable as a gauge. If the charging system is something you want to monitor, the addition of a voltmeter is strongly suggested. They're very easy to install and much more accurate than the factory ammeter.

tomorows the big night, i'm putting on an aftermarket temp guage and drillin through the fire wall. Iv'e only got 2 hours to do it, as i get off of school at 4 and it gets dark around 6, so wish me luck

why drill a new hole use one thats already there. surely you have one somewhere.

there is one but i don't want to drag the other cable out of thereand have to re-pack it with calking, plus when the origional owner put electric brakes on it, he put the wire going to the rear, through that hole. I'm just going to get a firewall grommet and call it good.

I have noticed that with the engine off and then you turn lights on the ammeter moves somewhat towards the D.

And it will realy move when your battery dies and you try to use something or atleast mine did.
