Used Air Compressor...

Post by Nitekruizer »

I've been wanting an air compressor for quite some time. I have the chance to go look at a used one advertised in the local classifieds. It's a 2 hp model with a 12 gallon tank, not "oil less". I am a hobbyist and would like to use it in my garage for everything from pumping up tires to powering a paint spray gun. I've never owned an air compressor before, so, I was wondering what kind of things I should be looking for? Thanks in advance

If it runs and holds air the only other thing is the regulator and pressure gauge. If you're going to be spraying paint you should get a drier/filter to go between the compressor and your gun.

rather than HP - you need to look at the CFM rating - this is the amount of air it can produce - most hvlp spray guns need between 8 an 15 at 30 psi - power tools need 10+ at 90psi
also be aware - compressor manufacturers are very optimistic in their ratings and i usually take about 70% of their rating as what I will likely get
thanks
