Winch bumpers and winch plate pictures please.

Post by 69SCJ »

Like the subject says. Let's compile a good thread of winch plates and bumpers.

I have not put my front bumper back on yet and am contimplating just building a winch bumper.
Thanks,

I took this old PTO winch off a 1944 6x6. Before I ever had my own shop and just a stick welder I drew up the plates for the bumper actual size and took them to a plasma cutting shop to cut them from 3/8 A36. I formed the bends in the face with a torch and welded it all with 7018. The winch itself was pretty big, the drum was around 16" diameter IIRC and was supposed to be rated for 20K pull. The bumper was simple, but sure was nice to have and got lots of compliments. If the truck wouldn't go through it it would just stop, couldn't hurt that bumper on a pickup.

I found a nicer Braden 24K winch and fairlead that's 40 years newer and more pickup sized so I sold that Garwood and bumper, but plan to make another similiar bumper for the Braden.

8000 pound Warn winch, dealer installed Ford option 1970. Been on truck since brand new. Winched all kinds of things with it, but never had to winch myself out, but it still works if I ever a need to. Not many years later they came with roller fair-leads.

Thanks for posting. They both look great. Hi-boy, that looks like an 8724. One the best in my book!!!! Average, you aren't kidding about that being a hoss!!!

I have a 90's bronco bumper similar to that warn bumper that I already modded once to fit on a 79 Bronco. May to see about modding it again. That, or I have some 1" an1.5" tube laying around.

That's a 5687 or "Bellview" winch. Warn made them for awhile, but they bought the design from Belleview. good winches, but only power in.

I keep it oiled, greased and the cable lubed up, ready to go. The brake handle had to be hand fabricated out of steel by a buddy, after I broke the aluminum one in half pushing a back-hoe. Been thinking of making a custom push-bar for it so as not to tear up the winch, in case I get a little crazy again. Wouldn't mind being able to mount a couple driving lights as well. A couple of anchor points would be nice too for running a snatch block. Hope it's not some kind of sacrilege to do so to the old girl. Will post after I get-r-done, few other irons in the fire right at the moment to tend to.

I agree. Ya'll mind posting side shots of your trucks when you get a chance.
Thanks. :)

I figure that mine is about the least attractive winch bumper ever made. I'm not even sure I'd call it a bumper, it more of a plate with a winch on it.

I plan on building something better this summer, more along the lines of avaragef250's, that thing looks fantastic.

Wow! 8000 some odd members here and there's a whopping 3 trucks posted up with winch bumpers.

I'd love to see more if anyone else has something to post. This thread inspired me to tear down my AMU7 Braden and rebuild it. I sent the parts out for cleaning/derusting today and should have them back by the end of the month. When I get it back together I want to jump right into building the bumper for it so I'm looking for ideas. I liked the old bumper, but I have the braden roller fairlead for this thing and it just won't work with that design. The fairlead welds to a horizontal surface.

Also, anyone got a shortcut formula for figuring out how much rope will fit on a drum?
