Light wiring problems no more !

Post by wcm473ciford »

First off let me thank everyone for all the help .It saved me
alot of time and head scratching . I printed
the wiring diagram and after tracing wires I wound up at the
brake pedal switch which had no juice on the red wire where
it was supposed to have . I ran a wire from there to the fuse
box and made it hot and everything started working so actually
I didnt find the problem but I must have bypassed it . I may
find the problem later but right now everything works . One other
thing and you might already know this but I noticed that I had a
bright tail light on one side and a normal looking one on the other .

Then I checked my brakes and had the opposite effect . I didnt know
that you could do this but someone before I had the truck had the tail light out and the little piece in the socket will slide out and I guess
when they put it back in it went in backwards which it will go both
ways and made the light work backwrds . Sorry this was so long but
as strange as all of this was maybe it will help somebody else .
Thanks again for the help .

Whenever I pick up a new "old truck", the lights are the first thing I check out, because of a situation I almost "ran into" some years ago...
I was traveling along a lonely 2-lane highway up north, doing around 60mph, when I approached a mini-truck stopped at a crossroad. No traffic coming from the other direction, his RIGHT turn signal blinking, and he's just sitting there. Dropping down to about 40mph, I passed him on the left, and he gave me a big stare. Pulling back into my lane, I check my mirrors and his front LEFT signal is on. Some backyard mechanic reversed those wires to the tail. With no witnesses, I'd have bought that accident if he'd have made that turn.
