Replacing Metal Toggle for Neutral Safety Switch

How do you replace the metal peice that comes out of the bottom of the steering column and moves the neutral safety switch? I broke mine trying to get my steering wheel back on. Anyone know how to do this?

i'd grab a new switch i thing they are around thirty bucks. you could also use that heat shrink tubing...i forget the proper name but you can put it over what ever is left and warm it up. it will shrink to fit.

The switch is fine. I have it rigged up right now to make it think that it is in neutral all the time. I need to replace the metal peice that sticks out of the column which moves the switch as you move the gear selector.

I'll give that a shot. It's going to be hard though because the part that stick out is what broke off. Gotta think of a way to reach in there and grab it (unless I take the column out, which I don't want to do). Thanks a lot.

You dont have to take it all the out. Just drop it down. I took mine out to move the switch ( Cheap theft deterent ). I have to move the switch lever by hand while cranking the truck to start it. I had to use a small flat tip screwdriver on the edge to pry it off. I still have it if you need one. Sorry for fuzzy pic but its the part in question.

Not an uncommon dilemma. It isn't that much work to pull a column, take maybe 10 minutes, but do mark the splines so the wheel is centered.
Anyway, we made one once from plumbers tape and installed it without removing the column, would have been much easier had we removed it.

Correct you are Keith they just snap into place and yes 67F250CS all you have to do is drop the column I just recently did this when I swapped out my column and then noticed that the piece was broken.
