67 stepside for my son?

Post by basketcase0302 »

Hey guys,

I found this 67 stepside yesterday while driving on my route. I couldn't stay long, but spoke to the owner for about 5 minutes about it. Original engine-needs M/C-needs hood-drum fronts-appears to be original bed with indent for spare on DS? (diamond plate steel laid in bed area)
Best thing is the price, asking $1200.
My son Zach says he wants it, maybe become a two bump family?

It looks really solid to be in the rust belt 8), and $1200 isn't too bad a price either, I say if your son really wants it go for it ! However I'd look over it really good before making a final decision so you know if your going to need to do any patch work, also I'd look at the passenger's side quarter panel it looks like they did some rust-repair on the front part of the wheel well there where the rust red primer is, just something you may want to look at. Good luck with whatever you guys decide to do .

Looks nice and strait. I guess the only question is whether there's any rot in the usual places and, if so, how much. That's all I care about. Mechanical problems can be fixed a lot easier than body rot.

What's under the hood?

Yeah my son's actually thinking about getting rid of the Chero' in favor of a bump, I'm stoked! :D I think I'll try to run up there where the truck's at this weekend and run it over with a fine tooth comb, (Including vin number to see if is an original stepper/not made into one).

It has the original FE engine in it, (owner says it's a 352).
I see it being a lot easier to restore than Zach's 71' Chero' due to the limited parts availability for the Chero'.

At first glance it appears worthy of being called another basketcase!

Good day Jeff!

In my opinion, a 1967, Flareside, FE-powered truck is a choice configuration, especially if those are its OEM specifications!

What's your son's age?

It depends on how bad your son wants it. Judging by the pic you posted, $1200 seems a little steep to me. But thats just me.

Well, the more I think about it, if it runs & drives good, $1200 isint too bad.

It could be a SLICK son-of-a-gun tho. I bet your son is excited.

Jeff,

Nice looking truck!

In all honesty, that's a good price for it's condition in it's location.

I say grab it, then come grab the parts truck and your hood :) In your case, should the flareside need wheels, I'll let them go as well.

Would be awesome to have your Son in a bump as well!

Have a great one (and serious about the offer of the parts truck),

Guys,

I believe I've only ever seen one bump stepper here in the county I live in for the five years I've been here, so there aren't many of them around here. For a 19 year old my son's gotten a lot of expierence working on our Fords, and I show him the benefits of owning them every day.

I'm not even sure on the tranny as I was on "company time" when I stopped there for the few minutes I took to give it a real quick once over. Good eyes on the for sale sign though! I didn't even look into the cab of the truck. Really hope to this weekend.

I find company time is the best time to bumphunt. Maybe the cluster is a spare. Or better yet, it goes in the truck. That way you can pick it up, look at it with that "what a piece of s**t" look on your face so the seller will start to get apprehensive and say "I'll take $1000 for it".

Too bad you're so far away, if it's a cherokee chief I might be willing to trade a nice 68 bump for it, provided they're in similar condition.

It's for my twin boys, sure they're only 3 right now, but it's all for them! Well, and my twin girls. They're not even 1 yet, but when they are I'll have a pit crew!

It really is basically another basketcase, but my son seems up to the task. He's been with me through most of the build on my truck, so he knows what's involved. This truck would be even more work as I see a lot (almost the whole truck) being media blasted back to the bare metal to return the factory turquoise color back to it.

Guys once again I need some help please...
I've ran the VIN against the tutorial here:
http://www.fordification.com/tech/VIN67.htm
And just don't see how to tell if this truck is an original stepside or not?
I don't see a body code or style in the VIN ID tutorial that tell if a VIN is a factory stepside?
I'm sorry but I won't post the trucks VIN here as I see that as an invasion of privacy for the owner. But I do know from the numbers it is a 67.

How about the body code for a stepside?
