need help replacing ignition cylinder without key

I bought a 1969 Ford F100. It came with 1 key and like a dumbass I put it in a safe place. So now I have to replace the cylinder and I don't have a key. Can anybody help me out and tell me how ?

If you don't have a key you'll need to replace the lock cylinder and the switch at the same time or assuming that your door key is the same, remove the door lock, take it to a locksmith and have a dupe key made...

I've had to drill them out before. If you have to do it, drill it dead center, and start small and work up to a bigger bit. And don't drill so deep you drill out the back of the cylinder and mess up your switch. It's not hard to do, just aggravating.

The whole works will come apart except for the part Saz mentioned,
but you don't have to drill anything just yet.
Take it all apart and buy a new lock to use until you find the key.
I've got a few of the things laying here in a box that could be used as
is or re-keyed.

Remember... them dangged locks only lock you out because you are
the only one not willing to break something to get in! LOL ;)

ps- Re-keyed a '74 C700's and going to mount it on the dash of a '91
Bronco so it will use the same key as my '75 pickup. :)

re keying is pretty easy if you have the pins to do it with and are patient enough to do it. and not being shaky helps too. the last one i took apart to rekey explded when i shook at the wrong time and the pins went flying. i found them all but i havent tried to do another one since.

I seem to have done the same thing... one key truck with matching door and ignition key... local locksmith wants about $50 to make a duplicate key. I figure for about $60 I can buy a whole new set.

So it'll all come apart without drilling? I'd rather not drill out the old lockset if possible in case I find the key I can use it in another truck.

Yeah, just unscrew the lock ring around the ignition, pull it out the back of the dash, and carefully unplug it from the wiring harness, they can be brittle. A new switch with keys is around $20 at your local parts store.

Has anyone successfully removed the lock cylinder from the switch without destroying it - and without having the key?

I have been able to remove the cylinder and re-key it, but do not know how to remove it without having the original key.
