Truck show

Post by AlleyCat »

The second annual spring meet of the Greater Pittsburgh chapter of The Antique Truck Club of America was held at Hunter's Truck Sales Uniontown PA branch. Although the threat of thunderstorms resulted in a lower than hoped for turnout about 30 rigs showed up. Rain stayed away and it was a nice day.

Image

This Falcon based Ranchero is super clean. A 289 provides the motivation. Bump next to it is mine.

Image

This 47 Ford COE has been remounted on a 90's F350 chassis with a 7.3 diesel and automatic. It's hauling a 34 Ford coupe that's set up as an early dirt track car. I suspect the only time the car has ever been on a dirt oval was for nostalgia events.

Image

Although it sports a hot flathead with dual carbs, suspension mods and a Halibrand quick change rear there are things that tell me it's never seen any real action. First it's too straight, second it has glass, third it has lights, forth both of the front tires are the same size, fifth is the absence of suspension jacks ( big screws that aided weight transfer ) and lastly the rub marks behind the numbers are painted on.

The owner of this 1928 International pickup found it in pieces in a warehouse. He restored it several years ago. It's now for sale.

Image

This 1911 Model T Ford delivery truck is also an older restoration. Due to it's inability to keep up with modern traffic it's trailered to events but it runs and drives like new.

The antique fire truck crowd had some fans out today. A trio of late 40's American-LaFrance 700 series rigs, a 31 ALF 200 series pumper and 50 GMC with an ALF conversion attracted kids of all ages.

I forgot the make but this hit and miss engine dates from 1910. It produces a whopping 35 hp. The guy on the trailer wasn't cold, the engine was running when I snapped the pic.

Now I'm addicted to old iron of any size but the addiction really shows up when it comes big trucks. This 47 Mack L series is the kind of rig I just about drool over. Built as a heavy hauler it sports a Cummins diesel, twin stick trans ( pretty sure it's a 5+4 box ) , chain drive, suicide doors, a big mechanical winch behind the cab and 13.00 - 24 rubber this truck is a monster. I'd love to get the chance to drive it.

Now I know this is a Ford truck site but the story that goes with this 37 Chevy sedan is one most of us can relate to. The owner's grandfather bought this car new at a dealer in PA that amazingly is still in business in the same location. The owner's parents split up when he was 4 and his older brother drove this car to New York to pick him up since neither parent wanted to raise him. He bought the car from his grandfather in 1954. He had it professionaly restored in the late 60's and has entered it in hundreds of shows since.

Thanks for sharing. I like those old fire engines, and of course that 47 Mack rig is impressive.

That big old Mack is great! I think you and I have pretty similar taste when it comes to old big trucks.

Hey Steve there is a big towing show coming up in June. Unless something goes wrong I'm going to attend. I'll prolly take 2 or 3 cameras to that one.
