resto on 67 4x4 stepside.

Hey all, I'm starting a resto project and wanted to get some opinions from whomever wanted to give thiers on what would work best.

it's a 67 vin# F11YEA71740 it has the NV435 dont know what transferr case? the rear axel code shows a 9" rear and looks to be a Dana 40 in front, w/ no PS.
the only thing that is throwing me is the door badge dont show a front axel code and this truck was giving to me by my Mom and she got it from a cousin of mine, and lord knows if it is the original door or not. the engine is not original and my cousin said it was a 390 how can I tell this?

heres where I need some opinions;

1. what leafs would you put on the rear and front springs?
2. are the warn hubs expensive to replace?
3. can PS be added without being a guru on these trucks?
4. what else would you do to the frame and running gear while doing the frame off?

to check out what the truck really is check both the door vin and the frame vin. it should be on the front top of the passenger frame rail.

to see if it is a 390 you have to measure the stroke of the pistons. to do that you put the engine on number one tdc . remove the number one spark plug. take a round stick and put it in the hole until it touches the piston. make a mark ont he stick. roll the engine over to bdc. use the sick again and put it in the hole make another mark on it. remove the stick. make a measurement betweent he two lines. if the measure meant is 3.78 then it is a 390. if it is 3.50 it is a 360 or 352.

power steering depends on how the axle is steered. it also depends on where the steering box is located on your truck. post a pic of your steering and where is your box located at? inside the frame outside the frame? in front of the tires or behind the tires?

Dont have the pic yet, but the box is on the outside of frame and in front of axel the steering shaft actually runs right above the frame in a nice strait line.

that is the way my truck was originally i think . mine now has a power box on it in the same place. it works fine. other than the small leak the box has. i need to get a new seal for it.

just bolt one in with no modifications to the frame?

The best you could do is get a "76- "79 F150 4X4 or '78-9 Bronco and harvest the front axle with disc brakes and power steering.
You have to modify the frame a little to make the steering gear clear.

here is a pic of how mine was put on. they welded on a bracket to the frame and put the 2wd saginaw power steering box in it.

Does anyone know if Ibeling still makes the bolt on kit? This might be of interest to BWdiver.

I guess I was wrong. :doh: Ibeling is listed on the tech page of this site but it isn't a bolt on kit. Alot of this has already been talked about. If I remember right one of the Bronco places put together a kit also. I was wrong in stating it was a bolt on. I think the Bronco place involved cutting and welding also.

The BC Broncos kit is bolt-in. Just some re-drilling and you are set to go. I will be installing mine in the next week or so.

1. what leafs would you put on the rear and front springs? Since it has coil front and leaf rear, it's up to you. I am installing a SkyJacker lift on mine.

2. are the warn hubs expensive to replace? Don't know, but I think they are about $150

3. can PS be added without being a guru on these trucks? See above and stay tuned, I will be doing a how-to on it.

4. what else would you do to the frame and running gear while doing the frame off? If I had the shop space to do it, I would box the frame and coat the whole thing in POR15.

Your T-Case is a (most likely) Dana 21, Ford only piece, most guys like the Dana 20 more, with the high/low selection. One day I will be adding that too, but the adapters are pricey!
