How are the square captive nuts on inner fenders held in?

Hi!

While stripping #50's inner fenders one of these square captive nuts came out. The rest of its kind seemed securely lodged in the sheet metal, so I didn't try too hard to remove them. I just plugged the threads with junk bolts to protect them from sandblasting and paint.

Are these square captive nuts supposed to come out? And are they held in by a spot weld or metal "legs" that are pressed down against the sheet metal?

those things are just kinda tack welded in... I think I busted most of mine loose, and ended up using nuts, bolts and washers.

They are swaged in... Your pest bet is to tack weld them back in.

weld them back in use bolts and nuts or use J clips in there place where you can. that what i did in places. was J nuts.
