sandblaster mediablaster

Post by fordman »

i am going to get a sand blaster. i want this to blaster my frame down. as well as other things. i have found this one. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/d ... mber=95014 here is the manual for it. http://www.harborfreight.com/manuals/95 ... /95014.pdf
i have also found this one. but it is half the size for 50.00 less. http://www.toolsnow.com/browse.cfm/4,39.html
so will either of these blaster the frame without having to mess around. my compressor is a 2 hp 22gallon. which is suppose to equal 8 cfm. the tank will pump up to around 100 pounds pretty quickly. i haven't tried to get it any higher right now. i know the air pressure pretty much says what the blaster will do. so what am i looking at here? which one shoul di buy and how good wil the compressor i have work with the blaster? will it easily blaster the frame off?

I think you're gonna need a bigger compressor either way... I have a suction style and it'll run 100gallons worth of capacity down in about four minutes with my current 3hp pump setup... The old 6hp craftsman 'professional' would stay with it for about ten minutes before the pressure would drop. It eventully blew up after two years, rebuilt it and it blew up two years after that... $150 per rebuild so it's just sitting on top of the tank now. The duty cycle is what kills them. Make sure it's in the shade and not running constantly and it should be ok.

I have a big iron twin cylinder now, but no motor to drive it.

You can't get much done in four minutes, especially if it's rusty or has heavy grease.

i have the 40 pound version of this blaster and i can go for about 15 minutes on one load. i think we have a 20 gallon 1.5 hp compressor. it will maintain enough pressure to make empty the tank. hope this helps.

how much can you get done in 15 minutes? the first thing i am looking at getting done is the bottom of my bed floor . and then onto the whole rear end sprins and rear part of my frame.

i have been working on the front of my frame. the sandblaster has some trouble with grease so i spent alot of time scraping. i got most of the front cross memeber in 15(top and bottom). once you get the the open parts of the frame, you can fly through it. i did 4' of frame in less than a minute. it should clean the bed pretty quickly.

180 cfm is a bit much. save up a grand and buy an 80 gallon, 17 cfm compressor. that should power any sandblaster that would be needed on a project and the air tools to go along with it.
