Powder coat is what I will be using. Just got to blast in well and get all the contaminates off. There are some wild powder coat colors and textures available now.

We're planning to POR-15 our frame, leaf springs and rear axle this weekend. We're also planning to use it on the fenderwells and some other places.

Are you sandblasting first?

We don't have a sandblaster, so we are grinding, brushing and sanding everything first. Then we'll follow POR-15's recommended prep steps and brush it on.

I'm powdercoating all those items for my truck. It just gives a smoother finish than POR-15, unless it's sprayed on, which most people won't do.

One thing I've noticed, however, on the items that I've gotten powdercoated so far: very tight inside corners and crevices tend to not get coated very well...the powdercoating gets blown out of those areas during it's application. Using a spray gun with either paint or POR-15, I would think you could turn down the gun's pressure a bit for better coverage in those tight areas. Here's one example on my frame:

After the frame got home I went ahead and touched up these areas with paint.

Hrm. I thought by it's nature (being an electrostatic process) that powdercoating should cover everything very well. Wonder if the guys who did it were just sloppy.

Our frame does not have the powder coating in those same areas, it just cant get in there. I have never seen por15 but I think powder coating looks better, the por 15 could be used on the backside of the fender and under the bed and cab. I think thats what we are going to do.

I myself will be painting and clear coating my inner fenders and I'll be por-15ing my frame. If i was to do either to everything seeing i could do it all myself I'd go all por-15. But thats just me.

Hope your Project comes out the way you want it.After all in the end what you like is the most important factor in it.

You guys crack me up sometimes. Dont know why anyone cares if the frame looks a little better using one process over another, it is the protection that matters imo. Besides, i know lots of trucks that look fantastic even if the have the bare metal look on the frame :D

I like the bare metal look also, but our trucks daily driver days are over. We plan on driving this to shows and on the sunny weekends, and the rest of the time stay in the garage. We dont want it to ever work again. We have the newer cars for that.

I POR 15'd most off all my parts and they came out great even the engine is their enamel also. I had sprayed everything, never tried the brushing any of it. The stuff has held up well to the abuse I've given it this yr since I got it on the road. Here is a couple pics
