Harbor Freight Engine Stand

Post by bjde0b »

I need a one time use engine stand. Will this 750 lb. stand work for a 302? I am not doing a lot of work. Deconstruct. Clean. Paint. Reconstruct. Motor has max 20,000 since last rebuild to provide justification.

It should work fine i just bought one from harbor freight but it was the 1000lb capacity with 4 wheels and its pretty well built and sturdy.
You can pay more but you cant buy better.

While that one will do the job, I's spend the extra 10.00 for the 1000 lb one with 4 wheels.

If you get that engine stand, in the hole where the plate slides in to rotate, fill that pipe with some wheel bearing grease and it'll turn really nice.

Something so incredibly simple yet so very helpful!!! That definitely falls under the 'why didn't I think of that' category! I've got 3 engine stands all with motors and do a little prayin' (@#$%! !@#$!!!) every time I have to rotate one of them! Good tip!

Oh, one more thing...if you don't need it right NOW then wait and check the sales fliers as those things go on sale a lot. I've seen the 750# one go for $29.99 several times in the last year.

I got the 1000 lb stand for $50. I wish I would have done the grease thing because it sucks rolling it. I set the engine on cinder blocks once to unbolt the stand and remove the bell housing cover plate. I will do that again so I can grease the cylinder. I borrowed a neighbor's cherry picker so I can't just hand the engine again.

I wish I could claim this as my own but I bought my engine stand this way. The guy I bought it from had drilled and tapped the outer tube for a grease fitting. I don't have to remove the engine to grease it when it gets hard to turn. It apparently hasn't hurt it too much it held my 460 for several years like that, and it is nice when things don't turn as well as it should hit it with a grease gun and yowsers it works again. Just a thought. Tom
