i plan on putting my 1972 f-250 4x2 on a 1975 high boy frame i know that i have to shorten it 2 or 3 inches to keep the wheel well and the gap between the bed and the cab right cant decide rather to slide the rear end up and cut the back of the frame or cut the frame behind the cab and shorten it there what do you think ? give me some input guys .

If I had to do it I would cut behind the cab. I have never done it so I am only giving my opinion. Good luck Doug

I'd rather cut off the rear of the frame and leave the frame integrity intact.

There's only 2" difference, If I where you I'd slide the bed foward 1" and leave the other inch gap between the cab and bed. I don't think there is any way to slide the axle foward without making it look retarded, but if you want to shorten the frame 2" do it behind the cab. and also, keep in mind that you'll have to shorten the rear drive shaft 2" too. :2cents:

i dont think that sliding the rearend forward 2 inches would even be noticed let alone looking (retarded) explain how a truck looks (retarded) thanks for your input but i dont care for your way of putting stuff we dont want to offend anyone .do we? :2cents:

anyway, back to what I was sayin, I'd just leave the rearend alone, slide the bed foward 1 inch and call it good. :2cents:

that hunting truck does look bad like that but 2 inches will look fine i will post some pics when i do it in the spring .you have a neat stepside there

You can't just slide the bed forward. The bed braces are also spacers that allow it to set level on the frame as it goes over the kickup over the rear differential. There won't be any way to get the bed to set level without hacking it all to heck. The 'correct' way would be to section it just behind the cab.

it is good and straight right behind the cab. would make for a really easy cut .might try that way . any one on here ever go this way ? if so any pics i have both mig and stick i think probably use the stick welder with a 7018 rod not sure on the setting it is a lincoln 225 any help would be appreciated thanks

I would set it around 100 amp. I would also cut the frame on a diagonal and not straight up and down, much stronger. Measure twice and cut once. Just my :2cents: . Doug

do you mean on a 45 degree .both sides same direction or do you think cut them different directions would help

This is just my opinion, and I'm no rocket sceintist :lol: . The direction of the angle isn't important. What is, is that you cut at an angle, either direction. 45 degrees will work fine. Instead of cutting a 2 inch vertical strip you will cut a 2 inch strip on a 45 degree angle. Hope this helps. Doug
